Iowa Weather Report September 29th 2015: Suddenly Fall

FEELING MORE LIKE IT SHOULD: Some rain shower activity will start the day today and should clear out by the afternoon hours leading to some partial sunshine for some across the state. Temperatures however, will be much cooler than it has been with readings in the 60s to around 70 for highs. Wednesday through Friday will continue with readings in the 60s to around 70 with plenty of sunshine across the state.

WEEKEND: A storm system will be approaching from the west as we head into the weekend, however it will be blocked from moving into the state by Tropical Storm Joaquin that will be just off the east coast. Typically tropical systems that run up the east coast tend to block the eastward progression of systems and the GFS is showing that here. This means it will remain dry for the most part with mostly sunny skies around. We’ll have to see what will happen with what is to become Joaquin along the east coast and how it could affect the weather here for the weekend upcoming. Nevertheless, temperatures will still be in the 60s to lower 70s across the state regardless.

THE MIDST OF OCTOBER: Looking ahead, the GFS is showing temperatures warming as we head into next week with some 70s possible with mainly dry conditions around. The GFS shows the dry weather pattern looking to continue through the end of the period with temperatures above seasonal levels as we head toward the middle of October. Not much confidence in this solution at this time and we still don’t see any frosty weather in the offing with the coldest readings likely taking place over the next couple of nights.
