Iowa Weather Report September 17th 2015: September Rains Supreme

RAINY DAYS: A storm system will move into the state today and bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms to the area through early Saturday morning. Some rainfall amounts could be upwards of an inch with most areas receiving at least a half inch. Highs today will still be warm with upper 70s northwest to the middle 80s elsewhere. Rain chances continue into Friday and could affect some High School Football games Friday night. There is a chance some of the storms later today could become strong to severe. We’ll monitor the situation. Friday’s chances look much lower with mostly rain and embedded thunderstorms. We’ll see if this changes over the next 24 hours.

WEEKEND: A few early morning showers in the eastern counties of the state Saturday, will quickly clear out leading to a great weekend across the state. It will be much cooler and drier as well with readings in the 70s for highs and lows in the 50s.

NEXT WEEK: Temperatures will start the week near seasonal levels with mostly sunny skies Monday and Tuesday. Another system looks to move in Wednesday and Thursday with a chance of showers and a few thunderstorms at that time. The best chance of rainfall at this time, looks to be in the western and northern counties of the state. Readings will rise ahead of that system on Wednesday to near 80 if not above that in some areas. Thursday will see readings in the 70s for the most part.

FARTHER ALONG: Looking further into the extended period, warmer air moves back into the state toward the end of next week into the following weekend. This could bring readings back into the 80s in some parts of the state at that time. It looks to remain dry and warm through the end of the month before another system is shown on the model moving through on the 30th into the 1st of October with a chance of precipitation at that time.
