A Flash Flood Watch has been posted for much of Central and Southern Iowa until 10AM Monday September 7. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into Iowa late this afternoon and continuing into the overnight hours. Some of these storms will produce heavy rains as the storm system responsible for the storms will be slow to move and with upper level winds nearly parallel to the front this will cause additional storms to form over the same areas over and over again. If a Flash Flood Warning is issued for your area tonight do not hesitate and move to higher ground of your prone to flooding. Also if your out driving and encounter flooded roadways remember to turn around, don’t drown.
Additional showers and thunderstorms are likely late Monday into Monday night. Some of those storms on Monday night will drop heavy rains leading to more flash flooding. Additional watches will likely be required Monday night. By Tuesday the 2 rain events will drop widespread 2 to 4 inch rains across Iowa with isolated locations receiving 5 inches.
