Iowa Weather Report August 28th 2015: Get Out the Umbrellas

THE WEEKEND: There will be a good chance of rain across the state today as a storm system moves through the area. This along with the amount of cloudiness in the skies today will keep readings in the upper 60s through the middle 70s across the state. Most places should see at least a half inch, with some areas getting an inch or more. Rain will begin to move out later tonight into the morning hours of Saturday before the seeing some sunshine for the rest of the weekend. Readings on Saturday will be in the 70s to lower 80s with Sunday seeing temperatures a degree or two warmer with more sunshine around.

TOPPING OUT: Temperatures are still forecast to rise next week well into the 80s and perhaps a few lower 90s across the state. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny as summer returns after a hiatus of a week or so. There is a frontal system just west of the state with only the far western counties possibly seeing any chance of precipitation during the week.

CONTINUING INTO SEPTEMBER: Going into the extended period, the Labor Day Weekend holiday looks dry and somewhat warm according to this run of the GFS. Readings look to be above seasonal levels with 80s to around 90 for highs. We’ll see if this continues to be seen in coming days. Farther along, the weather pattern looks to become more active and temperatures look to return to seasonal levels as we head into the middle of September. Still no real trend setting up at this time, so confidence past the 7-10 day period is low.
