Today: Another sunny, hot and humid day is on tap for most the state with highs generally in the mid to upper 80’s in NW Iowa to the lower 90’s in SE Iowa. Heat index readings will climb into the 95-102 degree range in the afternoon once again especially in SE Iowa with dewpoints in the lower 70’s. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible in NW Iowa during the afternoon hours.
Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms will break out ahead of an approaching cold front Sunday night across Iowa. Locally heavy rains will be possible along across Northern Iowa. A few storms could also be severe across this area with large hail and damaging winds the primary threats. Low temperatures will range from 65 to 69 across the state.
Tomorrow: Monday thunderstorm chances will continue across much of Iowa. Storms should not be as widespread as Sunday night but much of the region will see mostly cloudy skies with off and on storms as the cold front settles across the region. Highs on Monday will range from the upper 70’s across NW Iowa to the mid 80’s across SE Iowa.
Tomorrow night: With the cold front still in the area thunderstorms chances continue Monday night with lows in the lower 60’s across NW Iowa to near 70 across the SE portion of Iowa.
Further out chances for showers and thunderstorms continue Tuesday into Wednesday. A trough of low pressure will eject out of the Pacific Northwest Tuesday and that will bring more widespread thunderstorm chances to Iowa Tuesday and Tuesday night. Severe weather will also be a threat late Tuesday into Tuesday night.
