Iowa Weather Report August 11th 2015: Staying Dry

DRY TIMES: It will be dry for the next few days with only a slight chance of some precipitation possible late Thursday night into Friday, however our confidence isn’t high on this system at this point. Readings today will be in the 70s to lower and middle 80s across the state and these will slowly increase through the week so by Friday we should see 80s to around 90 with a slight increase in the humidity levels as well. There is no real issues for the first two days of the State Fair in Des Moines, Thursday and Friday at this time outside that slight chance Friday morning for some precipitation.

WARM WEEKEND: Heading into the weekend, a frontal system tries to move into the state. It may be able to bring a few showers or storms into the northwestern counties on Saturday before the system falls apart as it tries to move to the east. This will be due to the main low pressure center moving northeasterly from Manitoba into Hudson Bay. Outside of that, skies will be partly to mostly sunny with temperatures well into the 80s and perhaps even a few lower 90s as well. Humidity levels will be somewhat tolerable but it will be more humid than earlier in the week.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: Looking into early next week, the GFS shows a system trying to move in Monday into Tuesday with a chance of some rain. It has a better chance than the system this coming weekend. If not, the extended period shows another system that could make a run on the state next Wednesday into next Thursday as well. Farther out, the GFS shows a ridge building over the area from the 21st (Next Friday) through the end of the period. This would mean very warm temperatures and little chance of any precipitation around. The GFS does hint at the ridge breaking down a bit at the end of the period with shower and thunderstorm chances returning but confidence in that and in this heat dome is low at this time due to inconsistency.
