Iowa Weather Report July 23rd 2015: Another Heat Engagement

SLOWLY RISING: Another spectacular day across the state today with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s through the lower and middle 80s. Humidity levels will be tolerable once again today. Temperatures along with the humidity will begin creeping up as we head into the end of the week and the weekend. There is some slight chances of seeing some showers and storms but the best chances look to remain outside the state through the end of the week for the most part. By Friday, highs look to get well into the 80s and perhaps even the lower 90s in some areas. Heat indices will be well into the 90s Friday and even into Saturday as well. The chances of showers and storms will increase late Friday night through the day Saturday into Sunday morning with a storm system moving through the area. Rainfall from this system will average around a half inch with some isolated totals at or over one inch possible. It’s too early to determine any possible severe weather threat at this time.

EARLY NEXT WEEK: The new week starts out with partly to mostly sunny skies on Monday with readings in the 80s with slightly lower humidity. That won’t last as another system will be approaching the state on Tuesday with showers and thunderstorms possible. This looks to last into Wednesday as well, but models may still change in the coming days regarding the timing of departure so stay tuned.

LONGER OUT: Looking through the end of next week and into the first week of August, the weather pattern looks to remain active with several chances of showers and storms possible. The main storm track looks to stay close to the state at least according to this run of the GFS. It is also showing cooler temperatures around as well with readings staying at or slightly below seasonal levels. Not quite buying that yet, but we’ll continue to monitor for any trends and or changes in the coming days.
