The National Weather Service in Des Moines has confirmed that an EF-3 tornado affected portions of Marion, Lucas, and Monroe counties on Monday.
The tornado reportedly started at 5:05 pm 1.6 miles southwest of Columbia and continued on for over an hour before stopping 6.4 miles southeast of Albia at 6:08 p.m. Estimated peak wind was 142 MPH, a tornado of EF-3 strength, with a length of 25.2 miles and max width of 440 yards. The tornado affected primarily rural areas before affecting some houses to southwest of Albia. There were no injuries or fatalities.
