Strong-to-Severe Storms Possible Saturday

An overall inactive week of weather is expected to pick up a bit as we head into the week. The Storm Prediction Center currently has much of eastern Iowa in an elevated risk of severe weather. There is a bit of uncertainty with this as there will likely be some convective leftovers ongoing to the north which, as always, can have a drastic effect on any forecast that we write. It all really depends on what direction these look to head and how long they stay around. If clouds stick around too long, that will likely take away any instability and therefore end the storm threat.

If the cards play right, we should see things cleared out by the late morning hours and allow things to heat up and ample moisture to move into the area with dew points in the 60s. This should create instability up to the boundary layer, and with modest shear available, severe bowing lines or supercells will be possible with any storms if they can develop. There may be some issues with capping, but a lot of these issues will be sorted out as we get closer to the event.
