Iowa Weather Report June 17th 2015: There’s Rain in the Forecast Again

SCATTERED CHANCES OF PRECIPITATION: More rain chances will move into the state from now through the weekend, although there will be some noticeable dry period mixed in as well. The best chances for dry weather through the weekend look to be on Friday and again Sunday afternoon and early evening, however we can’t really rule out precipitation any day between now and Sunday. Some decent rainfall amounts are possible but the heaviest rain will stay south of the state with the remnants of Tropical Storm Bill which should move through Missouri into Illinois later this week. Highs today will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s and that will be the same tomorrow and through the rest of the week and into the weekend as well.

NEXT WEEK: More rain is possible on Monday into Tuesday morning before we get another short break in the activity. Highs on Monday and Tuesday will be fairly close to 80. Another system moves in on Wednesday that may bring more showers and thunderstorms. This will be moving along the northern periphery of a heat ridge that will be to our south. The best chance of storms on Wednesday looks to be in the morning hours and then again late in the afternoon into the evening. However with this being a week out, things can still change with this. If the ridge builds farther north, we would likely see slight chances of rain and temperatures will be much warmer (perhaps into the 90s in some areas). So the fluidity of the forecast is still in question as we move toward the middle of next week.

FARTHER OUT: Looking into the extended period, the frontal system that is forecast to move through the area next Wednesday and Thursday is shown to stall south of the state heading into the following weekend (27th and 28th). This would bring a lot of precipitation south of the state, however as mentioned earlier, depending on what happens with the ridge that is forecast to build next week, this will change in future runs. It’s something to watch toward the end of the month. Another system around the 2nd of July (at the end of the period) would bring more showers and storms to the area as well. It’s still far enough in the future to watch but not be too concerned about as yet.
