Iowa Weather Report June 10th 2015: Rainwater Blues

GULLYWASHERS AHEAD: Another day of sunshine and warm temperatures ahead. It will not be as warm as yesterday where most of the state got well into the 90s with Sioux City getting very close to 100. Highs in the middle 80s to lower 90s will be common across the state today. The next system will move in late tonight and last through the day on Thursday and the first half of Friday. This will bring some showers and thunderstorms to the area. Some of the storms on Thursday could become strong to severe with all modes of severe weather possible. Heavy rainfall will be a threat as well with amounts of 1-2” possible with isolated heavier totals. Highs on Thursday will be in the 70s and lower 80s with more clouds around and perhaps a tick warmer on Friday as we should see some sunshine late in the day especially in the western and northwestern counties of the state.

MORE RAIN: Another quiet day for most of Saturday before more rain moves in to finish the weekend and begin the new work week. The best chances of showers and thunderstorms during this period will be the evening into the overnight hours with the daytime period remaining mostly dry. Highs will be in the 70s and 80s during the period. Decent rainfall amounts could be possible once again. It’s too early to determine severe weather during this period but we’ll watch it in the coming days.

OVER THE HORIZON: Looking into the extended period, the GFS Model is showing more activity at the end of next week as well with showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures look to be in a similar range to today with 80s and 90s across the area. The wet pattern looks to continue for several more days as the jet stream is shown to stay pretty close to the area through the end of the period. Any slight change could mean completely different weather ranging from cooler and wet to hot and dry. Things will likely change so confidence in this period in somewhat low after next weekend.
