STAY COOL IOWA!: There are two warm days are ahead of us both today and tomorrow with readings well into the 80s and 90s across the state. Skies will be mainly sunny with some clouds in the afternoon hours. Humidity will be up as well which will bring heat indices well into the 90s in many areas.
IT’S GON RAIN: Ollie Williams could not have said it better with regards to the forecast for the end of the week and into the weekend. There will be several rounds of showers and thunderstorms beginning late tomorrow night and lasting through the end of the week and into the weekend. This will not be all day rains. Most of the rainfall will likely be similar to what occurred late Saturday night into Sunday morning with storms developing in the evening hours and lasting through the overnight into the early morning before dissipating. We should see some sunshine here and there during the period, but summertime convection can be rather finicky so be prepared for rain chances at any time. Highs will be in the 80s for the most part during this period. Rainfall amounts will vary wildly across the state with some locations getting an inch or more especially if you get repeated activity. Would not be surprised to see totals over two inches in some areas as well. Severe weather is possible but it’s too early to determine the areas and the exact risks at this time. We should have a better handle on that in the coming days.
LOOKING AHEAD: As we look into the extended period, the GFS is showing a break in the rain around the 17th and 18th with temperatures at or slightly below seasonal levels. The model also shows the rain activity moving back into the state from the 19th through the 23rd that will look similar to what we’re forecasting later on this week into the weekend. Cooler air looks to move in at the end of the period.
