Iowa Weather Report June 1st 2015: Welcome to Summertime

THE WEEK AHEAD: It will be mainly sunny both today and tomorrow across the state with some clouds around from time to time. Highs today will be in the upper 60s to middle 70s with temperatures a few degrees warmer on Tuesday. Any rain chances will be slim and mainly in the far western counties of the state on Tuesday afternoon with the next system approaching from the west. The chances of precipitation will increase for the entire state on Wednesday and this looks to last through the weekend, however there will be dry periods and we may see some peeks of sunshine on some days as well. Highs will be in the 70s and 80s across the state with the warmest days being those with the most amount of sunshine during the day. It’s still too early to determine if any of these storms could become severe but some decent rainfall amounts are possible through this period with at least an inch of rain for most of the state with the chances of heavier precipitation totals being across our western counties.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: As we look into the extended period that takes us into the middle of June, the model is showing a slight cool down in temperatures early next week with another chance of showers and storms next Tuesday into early next Wednesday (9th and 10th). The northwesterly flow looks to continue for several more days before a quick warm up ahead of another system around the 15th that could bring more showers and thunderstorms at that time.
