All of Iowa, Forecast

Iowa Weather Report May 21st 2015: On The Way To Memorial Day

THE WEEKEND UPON US: As we near the holiday weekend, we still have a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast throughout the weekend period. The best chances are still looking to be on Sunday into Monday with only some scattered activity on Saturday. Rainfall amounts are will generally be around a half to one inch with isolated totals approaching 1.5”+ in some areas. Severe weather doesn’t look likely at this point, but we can’t rule it out entirely as yet. Today and Friday will be mainly dry preceding the next system with readings rebounding from the upper 40s through the 50s yesterday into the 60s and 70s today and tomorrow. There will be a few more clouds on Friday than today due to the approach of the next system from the west and southwest.

UNSETTLED: The rest of next week looks unsettled with some chances of showers and thunderstorms around. There will be some dry period where we could see some peeks of sunshine but it may be few and far between. Temperatures are expected to get into the 70s for the most part although any clouds and precipitation could hold the temperatures down further.

INTO JUNE: Looking into the extended period which takes us through the first five days of June, the GFS is showing more unsettled weather through the period with numerous chances of showers and thunderstorms. The timing of these systems is still up in the air at this time. Temperatures will be fairly close to seasonal levels and there will be some sunshine intermixed with the chances of precipitation. We’ll keep watching for any changes and or trends that may develop regarding this possible activity in the coming days and weeks.
