Iowa Weather Report May 14th 2015: More Active Weather This Weekend

THERE’S SOME TROUBLE ON THE RADAR: The next system will be moving into the state today bringing with it some showers and isolated thunderstorms to the area. The best chance for any rumbles of thunder will be across the southern counties of the state. With the amount of cloudiness across the state today, readings will struggle into the 60s with some of our northern counties staying in the upper 50s. We will get a break late tonight and into the first half of Friday before the next system moves in that will bring us more chances of showers and thunderstorms beginning Friday evening and lasting through Sunday. Some of these storms could become strong to severe and will delineate that threat in a post later today. Highs on Friday will be boosted well into the 70s and perhaps even touching 80 in our southern counties. Same can be said about the temperatures on Saturday and Sunday as well if we can get some sunshine during the daylight hours. Of course the sunshine will also destabilize the atmosphere leading to the possible severe weather threat. We’ll stay on top of it in the coming days.

ANOTHER BREAK: As we head into the new work week, temperatures look to cool back to the 60s and lower 70s for the most part on Monday and Tuesday with mostly sunny skies around. This will be ahead of another system that looks to move in on Wednesday with more shower and thunderstorm chances at that time. This looks to last through next Thursday as well.

HOLIDAY ROAD: As we look into the extended period which takes us through Memorial Day and beyond. The weekend looks to start dry on Friday and Saturday with seasonal temperatures around. The second half of the holiday weekend turns wet with a storm system moving into the area on Sunday and Monday. This looks to be followed by another storm on the 27th and 28th. We have seen the trend of at least part of the Memorial Day weekend being rather wet, however this is still not set in stone yet. We’ll keep watching it.
