WEEKEND RAIN CHANCES: A storm system will be moving into the state later today bringing with it a chance of some showers and thunderstorms. The best chances during the daylight hours will be over the western and central counties of the state. The eastern counties should continue to see partly to mostly sunny skies. Highs across the state will be in the upper 60s to the middle 70s. The rain chances will be around on Saturday and Sunday as well but there will be some sunshine around as well. This will help boost readings well into the 70s and perhaps even a few 80s in some areas.
LOTS OF RAIN: As we look into next week, it looks rather wet for the most part with a frontal system stalling around close to the state with repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms. We aren’t able to time when these rounds will occur but there is likely to be chances of precipitation at any time Monday through Friday next week across the state. The best chances will come Wednesday through Friday with another storm system that will be moving into the state at that time. There is some indication that some of the storms on those days could become strong, but we’ll have to watch for more trends before going any further on that. Rainfall amounts could be between one and two inches with some heavier totals possible. Temperatures this coming week will be highly dependent on the amount of clouds and showers we may see during the daylight hours. If we get some sunshine around, highs could easily get into the 70s. If we see more clouds and rain, temperatures could be held down into the lower and middle 60s for the most part.
EXTENDED ACTIVITY: Looking into the extended period, the unsettled weather pattern continues to be seen on this model run heading into the following weekend with chances of showers and storms continuing. This model run also shows the active weather continuing with some short breaks through the end of the period. We still don’t know the exact timing and strength of any possible systems at this time, but the model is telling us that the next 10-15 days could be more wet than dry across the state. Temperatures will reflect that as well with readings that could be held down with more clouds and rain around than if we see any possible sunshine in between possible rounds of precipitation. It’s a wait and see at this point what may happen as we move through the month of May.
