Midday Update: Severe Weather Risk Upgraded in Eastern Iowa

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the far eastern counties of the state to an enhanced risk of severe weather for this afternoon into early this evening. A slight risk remains east of a Prairie Du Chien WI to Waterloo to Albia line. Showers and storms are expected to develop early this afternoon over the eastern counties of the state. The main threat will likely be from large hail and damaging winds. An isolated tornado is possible in the far eastern counties of the state before that threat moves into Illinois. The main timing for this evening looks to be between 1-6pm before the threats move to the east. There is a large temperature swing across the state at this hour with upper 30s and lower 40s in the northwest and northern counties and lower 70s in the far southern and southeastern counties. The cold air will win the battle later on tonight as the cold front will move out of the state by this evening ushering in colder air into the area. Some showers will be possible throughout the remainder of the night before moving out before sunrise Friday morning.

Stay Alert This Afternoon and this evening to any possible watches and warnings that may be issued.
