WET PERIOD AHEAD: Several chances of precipitation in the next 48 hours across the state. Most of which will be in the form of showers and thunderstorms, however some of the precipitation in the northwestern counties of the state later on today could mix with some sleet or snow. Some light accumulation is possible there. Any severe weather will be confined to our south across Missouri on southward. Readings today will be in the upper 30s north to near 50 south. Another disturbance will swing through on Wednesday and bring another chance of some rain to the state albeit the chances will be less than those of today. Readings will be in the 40s and 50s for the most part with mainly cloudy skies around on Wednesday. Cool air will be the main story for the rest of the week as temperatures look to stay below seasonal levels. Another disturbance may come down Friday night into Saturday with a bit of precipitation mainly aimed at Central and Western Iowa but confidence isn’t high on this feature. Another storm on Sunday could bring a better chance of showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder at that time as well.
APRIL SHOWERS: As we look into the extended period, the GFS is still showing a storm around March 31st and April 1st in the area. This could bring another round of showers and perhaps a thunderstorm or two as well. We still have a little over a week to watch for any changes in the models so don’t take this to the bank just yet. Looking forward at the first week of April, the GFS is hinting at a very active weather pattern with storm systems moving through every other day or so through the 6th which will really benefit the soil moisture that has been inadequate of late. There can be too much of a good thing as well, but we’ll cross that bridge if and when we get to it.
