Iowa Weather Report March 18th 2015: Seasonal Streak

REST OF THE WEEK: There will be a few more clouds around as we move through the end of the week but most places look to stay dry as any precipitation chances look to stay away from the state. There are some slight chances late tonight in the far northern counties and some slight chances in southern Iowa but any precipitation if it does fall won’t amount to a whole lot. Readings today will be in the upper 40s to middle 50s across the state with the same temperatures being seen on Thursday as well.

WEEKEND: The GFS has a disturbance moving through the state on Sunday that could bring some precipitation to the state as rain and perhaps some wintry mix especially in the early morning hours. Confidence is a bit low on this feature but we’ll keep watching it over the next couple of days to see if this system continues on future model runs.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: Another system looks to move into the state toward the early and middle part of next week with some more precipitation at that time. It’s too early to determine how much but it is something that we will continue to monitor as we move forward. Looking farther along through the rest of March and into the first days of April, temperatures look to be close to seasonal levels as we move through the period. The GFS is showing a northwesterly flow that will be bringing systems close to the state but keeping most of the area dry at this point. There is a hint of some cooler air as we move into April however confidence in that solution is low at this time.
