WARM DOLDRUMS: Temperatures are going nowhere fast with readings remaining above seasonal levels for the rest of the week and into the weekend. A storm system may skirt the far southeastern counties of the state late Thursday night into Friday with a bit of light rain but most of that should miss the state to the south and southeast. Other than that, skies will be mainly sunny with only a few clouds around from time to time. There could be some fog again in the far eastern counties where snow has been melting in earnest this morning but this should burn off during the mid to late morning hours. Highs will be in the 50s, 60s and 70s across the state with the warmest over the west and coolest over the east.
COOLING DOWN: As we head into next week a cold front will drop into the state from the northwest. There isn’t a lot of moisture with this front, so we may see a slight chance of a shower or some sprinkles but most may get by with some clouds as the front moves through Monday night into Tuesday morning. What this will do is bring the temperatures back down into the 40s and 50s for highs with lows dropping into the 20s and 30s across the state. This will feel like a cold snap after a week of warm weather but the temperatures by mid-week next week will be fairly close to seasonal levels for the middle of March.
MARCHING ALONG: As we looking farther out into the extended period, the next system that will move into the state looks to come around the 19th and 20th with some rainfall. This will be followed by another batch of cold air from the north and northwest that may drop readings below seasonal levels once again. Another storm around the 25th and 26th may bring some more precipitation to the state in the form of rain and or snow. Enjoy the warm weather while we have it, because indications are that a return to a cold regime is in the cards as we head toward the end of the month.
