State Boys Basketball Forecast – Day 1

After the 2015 IGHSAU state basketball tournament was wrapped up Friday, we now look ahead to the IAHSAA boys tournament that will be played at the same place (Wells Fargo Arena) through the rest of this week. Before I get into the forecast, I would like to congratulation the Newell-Fonda (23-5 1A), Unity Christian (27-0 2A), Nevada (24-3 3A), Harlan (26-0 4A), and Waukee (24-2 5A) girls basketball teams for winning their respective classes championships!

Quarterfinals will be played today through Wednesday for the boys with semifinals on Thursday and Friday. The championships are looking bright later in the week with even warmer weather on the way. Our associate forecaster and horticulturist Derek McKay has an excellent write-up on how much snow depth is left across the state and the big warm-up this week.  Spring will continue to flood the state today with warmth and sunny skies with not a single cloud in the forecast today and temperatures in the 40s and 50s most of the day. Many schools are on Spring Break this week, and for those that are staying in Iowa, it’s a blessing to say the least.

Good luck to all of the teams playing – make your communities proud!
