Afternoon Road Condition Update: Snow Beginning in Western Iowa

The precipitation has changed over to snow in our western counties and some of the roads are starting to become partly to completely covered in snow and slush at this time. The rest of the state especially in the eastern counties are still dealing with some light rain and drizzle at this time. As temperatures fall later this evening, this may lead to some freezing on the roads that could create some hazardous travel even before snow really starts to get going. This will be especially true on bridges and overpasses. Travel will likely be not recommended later on tonight through the day on Sunday as the storm moves through. We are still looking at the possibility of 6-12″ of snow across the state with the higher totals likely occurring in the eastern counties of the state eastward into Illinois. If you do have to be out and about this evening, tonight into Sunday, be sure to have a winter weather survival kit with you in your vehicle in case you get stuck. The best advice would be to just stay at home until the storm moves out late on Sunday.
