Iowa Weather Report December 2nd 2014: Slowly Rising

THE NEXT SEVEN: The weather looks tranquil through Sunday across the state. The only dent is a slight chance of some precipitation (likely in the form of rain) across the far southeastern counties of the state. Otherwise skies will be partly to mostly sunny through the period. Readings will slowly warm through the week and into the weekend from the 20s and 30s today through the 30s and 40s by the weekend. This should help to melt any snowpack that is left across the state.

LOOKING FARTHER ALONG: A disturbance will move just north of the state but looks to drag a cold front through that will lower readings a bit, likely down into the upper 20s through the middle and upper 30s. Readings look to warm ahead of the next system that will affect the area for the rest of the period (according to this GFS Model Run). This system will be slow to move and will wander around for a while before starting to lift out at the end of the period. This run shows that the system will stay mainly south of the state for a time, but at the beginning and the end, some precipitation is possible. Since this is the first time we’ve seen such a scenario, we’ll take this with a grain of salt and wait for any trends to develop in the coming days. We have seen a system of some significance over the last few days around the 11th-13th time period, but there’s still too much uncertainty to go much beyond the current seven-day thinking.
