THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL: There is hope upcoming in the forecast with regards to the temperatures, however we still have a few more days to go with the bitterly cold temperatures across the state. A disturbance will move leaving the state early on today taking with it a few snow showers. These may linger during the morning hours in the eastern counties, otherwise skies will be clearing and the temperatures won’t be rising a whole lot today. Readings in the upper teens through the 20s will be commonplace across the state. Tonight we’ll see lows drop back into the single digits and lower to middle teens across the state before a slow warmup begins as we head toward the weekend. Thursday will be a bit warmer with 20s to near 30 across the state with partly to mostly sunny skies. Friday will be a few degrees warmer with some 20s and 30s across the state (still below seasonal levels for this time of year). As we head into the weekend readings will warm into the 30s and perhaps even some 40s but a new system will be making its present known and that could bring some interesting weather to the state.

WEEKEND FUN: Speaking of the next storm coming up this weekend, it will be moving in Saturday and Sunday bringing with it a chance of some rain, some wintry mix and perhaps a bit of snow as well. The snow cover that is on the ground across the state could tend to keep temperatures a bit lower than what models indicate, thus the precipitation that the model indicates as rain could easily fall as a wintry mix or perhaps even some freezing rain or drizzle. Another day or two and we should have a better handle on this as we move forward. Current thinking suggests that Saturday will be the better of the two days as the precipitation is expected to be rather light with Sunday seeing the heaviest precipitation mainly over the southeastern half of the state. Cold air will follow in the wake of the storm as we head into the new work week with a few flurries or light snow showers possible mainly in the northern counties of the state as the storm moves off to the northeast. Temperatures will tumble back into the 30s and perhaps 20s as we head into next week as well with a slow warm up heading toward and past Thanksgiving.

EXTENDED PERIOD: As we look toward the end of November and into December, the GFS shows some warmer air moving back in toward the weekend after Thanksgiving. This looks to precede a storm that may come through around the 30th into the 1st and 2nd of December with some precipitation. Another push of arctic air looks to come toward the state by the end of the forecast period, but it’s too early to determine whether or not that will materialize.
