SHORT TERM – This Weekend

As winter weather confidence increases, the state enjoyed one of the last few remaining days to get outside and enjoy the warmest temperatures we’ll hear in a while. Skies were Cloudy for the majority of the state with some light rain over the northern counties. High temperatures were generally nice in the 40s north to nearly 60 south. Winds were not much of an issue, at 5-15 MPH out of the south, with some higher gusts. A warm front was cleaning up shop as it headed east out of Iowa as a cold front moved in from the west.  Low temperatures tonight will be from the low 30s north to mid to upper 30s south. Winds will definitely pick-up overnight at 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH. A Wind Advisory has been issued for a large portion of northwestern, west central, north central, and northeastern Iowa from late tonight until early tomorrow.

Another nice day is expected tomorrow with high pressure settling out over Nebraska with a cold front to the east of the state. Partly Cloudy skies should be the highlight with low to mid 40s for the north and upper 40s to 50 south. Tomorrow night will not be very big with 30s the trend across the state with partly cloudy skies.

LONG TERM – Next Week

The long term pattern is the biggest concern with this forecast as the rumors about a potential winter event have been continuing to flying around. Models continue to seem to push this further and further north with only an inch or two over the northern counties. We will again not be issuing a formal snowfall forecast yet due to the continued inconsistency of models. The best forecast we can give at this point is that the majority of the heavier snow should remain to the north of US Highway 20. Those south of here should get some light snow and those south of Interstate 80 should get little to none. Temperatures on Monday will be in the 40s and 50s with much colder  high temperatures for the rest of the week in the 20s.
