LOOKING TOWARD THE WEEKEND: A disturbance will be moving through today bringing some shower chances mainly in the southern half of the state. We can’t rule out any rain in the northern half, but the chances there are slimmer. We could see some peaks of sunshine in the northern counties as well. Highs today will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s across the area. We should be in for some crisp cool nights tonight and again Friday night into Saturday morning with lows dropping off into the 30s to lower 40s. We may see some frost in the northern counties both nights depending on the amount of clouds and how strong the winds might be. There still could be a slight chance of rain tonight across the border counties with the rest of the state remaining dry. Saturday looks dry with partly to mostly sunny skies and readings mainly in the lower and middle 60s. This will be ahead of a storm system that will move through on Sunday and into the first half of Monday with some showers and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm mixed in as well.
HEADING INTO NEXT WEEK: After the system departs on Monday, skies should be mainly sunny through at least Thursday with readings near seasonal levels for the middle of October. Highs will generally be in the 60s. Temperatures may be a bit warmer on Thursday as winds will be out of the south and southwest ahead of an approaching storm, but dry weather is foreseen for the time being.
INTO THE EXTENDED PERIOD: This run of the GFS shows two systems that may affect the state with some showers and isolated thunderstorms. The first storm may come around the 20th and the other around the 23rd with both systems quickly moving through the state with a progressive pattern in place. We don’t see anything drastic at this point, but we’ll keep watching for any changes to timing and strength of any system in the coming days.
