Iowa Weather Report September 27th 2014

PLEASANTLY WARM: Partly to mostly sunny skies will continue across the state today through at least Monday with a noticeable increase in the cloudiness on Tuesday ahead of the next system approaching from the west. There is a slight chance of a shower or storm today mainly in the central counties during the afternoon but most areas should remain dry. Highs today and tomorrow will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

SLOW MOVING SYSTEM: The next system moves into the state on Tuesday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms along it. This will be slow moving and another disturbance will ride the slow advancing cold front Wednesday night through Friday with additional chances of precipitation at that time. It’s too early to determine any chance of severe weather, but at this time the chances look marginal at best. We’ll continue to monitor for any changes in the next day or two as things should start to become clear.

FORWARD THROUGH OCTOBER: As we look into the extended period, the GFS has a quick moving flow across the northern tier of the country with several quick moving system that may move through the area. This would bring a chance of precipitation (namely showers and perhaps a thunderstorm) along with cooler weather for a brief period before moderating. The GFS also shows a strong system could impact the state around the 11th or 12th of October. This is still more than two weeks out but we’ll watch to see if this system maintains itself on the models over the coming days.
