College Football Forecast Week #3

There are two very different stories for football this Saturday, one being a chilly and crisp Iowa (2-0) vs Iowa State (0-2) football game, and the other being a warm and tropical UNI (0-1) vs Hawaii (0-2) game. If I had a choice between the two games, I would definitely pick the latter. Not that Iowa vs Iowa State doesn’t sound enticing, but going to Hawaii would definitely be a cool trip.

Anyway, back to the weather. The one lucky thing for the Iowa vs Iowa State game is that the wind will remain fairly calm at 2-3 MPH, starting from the north before working it’s way around to the south. Temperatures will keep the game brisk though, with the 9am temperature starting out at 46° before slowly working it’s way to the forecasted daily high of 59° at 3pm, to simply have it fall again after that back into the mid 50s later in the evening. Iowa is heavily favored in this game, after a couple close calls against UNI and Ball State, they will likely be looking to make a statement as they take on the Iowa State Cyclones, who are coming off an ugly second half loss to #19 Kansas State. Either way, we do live in Iowa, hopefully everyone will fight the cold and head on out to the game.

Now for the moreso comfortable game – UNI vs Hawaii. The game time in Hawaii Standard Time will be 6:00 PM. In Central Daylight Time, that will be 11:00 PM, so definitely a long night for those that will stay up to listen to it on the radio. Now, if you head out to Hawaii to truly cheer on your Panthers, be prepared for sunny skies and tropical temperatures in the 80s with light winds out of the southeast at 6 MPH. It’s just a nice scene to think about it, meanwhile we’re all stuck in Iowa dealing with 50s and 60s. Not that I’m complaining, it’s better than extremely hot temperatures like we normally have seen at this time of year.

I absolutely bombed last weeks CFB forecasts. I thought that a. Kansas State would blow out Iowa State and b. Iowa would blow out Ball State. I thought wrong on both. Iowa State put up a good fight, only to lose it in the second half, unfortunately. Iowa had a tough time against Ball State. Both games were kept to a margin of 5. One of our Associate Forecasters from Kansas, came in first, after only being one over in the Iowa vs Ball State game and being 3 over in the ISU vs Kansas State game. Pretty good, if you ask me. Now all I have to do is dig myself out of this 47 point hole I’ve dug myself, sigh.

Anyways, enjoy the games, and bundle up [Iowa vs Iowa State] and wear sun screen [UNI vs Hawaii].
