ONE MORE NICE DAY: Another nice day is in store across the state with readings mainly in the 70s. However the pattern changes as we head into the new work week as a disturbance along with a southward advancing cold front will bring changes to the weather throughout the week and into the following weekend. First off Monday we will see an increase in the clouds with an isolated shower or storm across the area, mainly in the western and central counties. The eastern counties just get by dry for most of the day. Readings will remain in the 70s to near 80 on Monday. Tuesday through Thursday looks to be quite showery with some rumbles of thunder here and there. Some decent rains are possible which may lead to some localized flooding in some areas. Highs will be in the 70s and may drop into the 60s for highs on Thursday as the cold front moves through the state at that time. This will usher in very chilly air for the middle of September. The GFS over the last few days have suggested that we could see lows well down into the 30s both Friday and especially Saturday morning. The GFS has also suggested that temperatures may even drop below freezing in the northeastern and eastern counties of the state. We’ll have to see if this trend continues. If it comes to pass, this could be the earliest frost since records have been kept. However things can still change and we’ll keep abreast of any changes regarding this possible cold snap toward the end of next week.
LOOKING FARTHER AHEAD: As we look past next weekend, the cooler temperatures don’t really go away entirely as another push of Canadian air looks to come down in about 10 days. Thereafter the pattern starts to modify some, but the extended shows mainly cooler than average readings for some time. It also looks to be somewhat tranquil as well with few systems moving through the area and many of them toward the end of the period. We’ll monitor for any changes in the coming days.
