Iowa Weather Report September 4th 2014 – Iowa Weather Network Archives

HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND: As we near the weekend, the shower and thunderstorms chances will be on the increase once again. We may have some early day showers and storms in our eastern counties but these should dissipate or move out of the state within a few hours after sunrise. This will lead to some partly to mostly sunny skies across the state, but it will be quite warm and humid. Readings today will rise into the 80s to around 90 across the state. Dew points will be high as well which may bring heat index levels close to 100 in some areas. Be sure to take it easy if you’re going to be outside for a long period of time. A cold front will move into the state late tonight and into Friday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms along it. Some of these storms could bring some decent rainfall amounts but flooding doesn’t look likely at this time. This front will linger across our southern counties during the day on Friday while the northern counties should see some peaks of sunshine. However it will be much cooler statewide with readings in the upper 60s north to the middle 70s south. Lows on Friday night will drop into the middle to upper 40s north to the middle 50s farther to the south. The weekend looks great with plenty of sunshine, cooler temperatures and lower humidity. Highs in the upper 60s through the 70s will be common across the state this weekend.

INTO NEXT WEEK: Shower and thunderstorm chance appear once again next week late Monday night through Thursday across the state. This will not be all-day rains as there will be some dry periods with some peaks of sunshine possible. Readings on Monday ahead of the storm look to be in the 70s. Tuesday through Thursday with clouds and showers around, readings will hang around the lower and middle 70s across the state.

INTO THE IDES OF SEPTEMBER: The GFS shows some cooler temperatures moving into the state with a northwesterly flow through the middle of the month. This looks to modify toward the end of the period with seasonal readings at the end. A few systems may pass through the state with little fanfare but nothing too significant at this time. We’ll watch for any changes.
