UP AND DOWN: A roller coaster of weather will be upon us the rest of the week and into the weekend. Today and tomorrow will be quite warm with highs in the 80s and even a few lower 90s possible across the state as well. There will also be a chance of some showers and thunderstorms as well. Today the activity looks to be mainly in the afternoon into the evening and overnight and again Thursday afternoon through the day on Friday. The Thursday into Friday storm chance will be along a cold front that will be sweeping across the state. Behind the cold front, will be much cooler air that will bring the first taste of fall across the state and region for the weekend. Highs will be in the upper 60s through the 70s and lows will be in the 40s and 50s. This is football weather in my opinion.
INTO NEXT WEEK: The cool weather doesn’t look to last too long as the winds swing back around to the south on Monday and with that moisture levels will increase, a storm will approach from the west and showers and thunderstorms look to return to the area through at least next Wednesday. The best shots at seeing any precipitation look to be late Monday night into Tuesday and then again late Tuesday afternoon through the first half of Wednesday when the cold front should move through the state. The timing of these events is still a bit up in the air at this time, but we should be able to pinpoint them down in the next day or two.
FARTHER ALONG: A deep trough looks to move over the eastern half of the country bringing cooler readings to a large part of the country including Iowa. This looks to last for several days before modifying to near seasonal levels toward the end of the period. We’ll see if this shows up in upcoming runs in the next couple of days, but we have several systems to get through before we get to this event.
