APPROACHING RAIN: The chances of showers and thunderstorms will be on the increase as we head into the new work week. Today we will see morning sunshine with afternoon clouds once again. There could be some isolated showers and storms that fire during the afternoon into the evening hours but these look to be hit and miss at this point. Highs will be in the 80s. Tuesday through Thursday, the chances will be better with showers and storms around but it won’t be an all-day rain. There will be some sunshine around that will bring readings up into the 80s but in areas that see extensive cloudiness, readings there will stay in the middle and upper 70s. Some of the rainfall could be significant with an inch or more possible. The models have wavered on where the heaviest rain would fall thus far, but some places could see more than others. It’s just too early to tell where it will be at this time.
INTO THE WEEKEND: The active pattern looks to continue into the weekend as well with chances of showers and thunderstorms around. They will be hit and miss and some areas may stay dry for most of the weekend. Highs look to range in the 70s and 80s depending on cloud cover. This should not affect any plans for heading to the State Fair in Des Moines.
LOOKING FORWARD: A trough over the Great lakes and a building ridge out west will bring about another northwesterly flow across the state during the last couple days of the State Fair. This would keep readings below seasonal levels with some threat of showers and storms around. Although this run is drier than previous when it comes to possible precipitation, we can’t rule the chance out at this time. Another push of cool Canadian air arrives around the 18th and 19th, just in time for most children to be heading back to school across the state. This would bring showers and thunderstorms as well as cooler temperatures. However this is still more than two weeks out and things are likely to change in the coming days. We’ll see if any of these continue in forthcoming model runs.
