THROUGH THE WEEKEND: It will feel a lot better today with lower humidity around and mostly sunny skies. Highs will range from the upper 70s to middle 80s across the state. We will see similar weather on Thursday as well with some noted increase in the clouds ahead of the next system that will be coming from the west. This will come Thursday night through early Saturday morning with some chances of showers and thunderstorms at that time. Temperatures will rebound in our western counties where some 90s are possible Friday and Saturday with 80s elsewhere. Readings may be lower if more clouds are around. It’s too early to determine any chance for severe weather at this time. Sunday will bring cooler and drier conditions into the state with 70s to lower 80s for highs with partly to mostly sunny skies.
NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: Heading into next week a system looks to move in around mid-week that may bring some precipitation chances to the state at that time. What will be seen is a trough will be digging in across the east with a ridge holding tough in the southwest. This will put us in a northwesterly flow which will tend to keep readings at or below seasonal levels for the last part of July into early August. The GFS keeps this pattern going into the first days of August when it begins to weaken and the main storm track retreats back to Canada. This would possibly bring warmer temperatures to the state just in time for the beginning of the Iowa State Fair August 7th.
