Iowa Weather Report July 16th 2014

SUNSHINE ON MY SHOULDERS MAKES ME HAPPY: No big changes over the next few days with sunshine along with afternoon clouds across the state. Readings will be mainly in the 70s today and Thursday with some upper 70s to lower 80s on Friday as warmer air slowly begins to move back in.

WARMING WEEKEND: The dry weather pattern looks to continue as we head into the weekend, with partly to mostly sunny skies around this weekend with readings making it into the 80s and even a few lower 90s in the western counties on Sunday. RAGBRAI begins in Rock Valley on Sunday heading to Lake Okoboji so cyclists will be in for true summer weather and not what we’re experiencing currently across the state.

CYCLING THROUGH NEXT WEEK: The weather pattern begins to change as we head into next week as a disturbance moves through the state Monday through Wednesday which will bring some chances of showers and thunderstorms at that time. The chance on Monday looks to be mainly in the evening into the overnight while Tuesday and Wednesday could be at any time. It will be warm and humid with readings well into the 80s and 90s across the state. As we head into the extended period the wet pattern would look to continue through the next few days as we come under a northwesterly flow between a ridge to our west and southwest and a trough to the east. This would bring periodic chances of showers and storms through the rest of the period but it’s too early to determine what days these chances may be greatest. Readings during this period would look to be near seasonal levels.
