Moderate Risk of Severe Weather for Tomorrow

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has posted a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms over west central Iowa tomorrow. All modes of severe weather with be possible including large hail, damaging winds, tornadoes, and flash flooding. Dew points in the upper 50s to lower 60s and moderate instability will be the foundation for thunderstorm development which should hold off until the late afternoon thanks to capping. As an impulse reaches the area during the mid-afternoon, the cap should begin to break and thunderstorms should begin to develop across areas near the Northern Plains and strengthen as they move east to southeast into the area. Embedded supercells with this line will be capable of very large hail to two inches, strong wind gusts to 80 MPH, and isolated tornadoes.
