SPLIT WEEKEND: Today will feature showers and thunderstorms across the state. This will not be an all-day rain by any means but the skies will be mostly cloudy throughout. We may be able to get some sunshine early on in the eastern counties of the state before the clouds roll in. Readings will be cool with 60s across the north to the middle and upper 70s across the south. Rainfall amounts will be in the half inch range give or take a tenth or two. The system will begin to move out of the state tonight with some partial clearing in the western counties. Lows tonight will drop into the upper 40s northwest to near 60 in the southeast. On Sunday, skies will be partly to mostly sunny with readings in the lower to middle 70s across the state.
THE NEW WEEK: Monday will bring a system that may graze the state with some precipitation chances. Some models like the GFS are showing little if any precipitation outside the far southern counties while the NAM has more precipitation covering most of the state. We’ll keep a chance of precipitation in the forecast for the time being. The GFS has some rain possible Tuesday and Wednesday in the eastern counties of the state. Another system may come in Thursday bringing more rain to the state at that time. Readings during this period will remain in the 70s for highs.
NEXT WEEKEND AND BEYOND: Next weekend another storm system will be approaching that could bring more rainfall to the state at that time. Looking farther out, the GFS shows a pattern of showers and storms moving through as we look to be in the battle ground of the cooler Canadian air to the north from the warmer air to the south. If this were to take place we could have repeated rounds of showers and storms every 2-3 days or so with disturbances moving through. We’ll see if this trend continues on upcoming model runs.
