STORMY PERIODS: There will be a threat of some scattered showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon into the evening hours today into Monday with a system moving through the area. Some of these storms could bring some gusty winds and brief heavy rains as well. Tuesday should see a break for most of the state as we will be in between systems, the one departing to the northeast and another one developing to our west. This means that sunshine will be in full force with some clouds around with readings during this period in the 80s. Tuesday night another batch of storms looks to move through the state mainly targeting the southern half of the state. This will continue into Wednesday where we could see some redevelopment later in the afternoon but this will depend on if the sun comes back out early enough to destabilize the atmosphere after the morning round of storms. Severe weather is possible with this and an outlook will be posted later this morning regarding this and any possible severe threats earlier in the week. Wednesday’s readings will be held down into the 70s to lower 80s from north to south.
INTO NEXT WEEKEND: Thursday and Friday will be quieter although the risk of an isolated shower or storm looks to return on Friday with the next system approaching for the following weekend. Both days will have readings in the 70s with mostly to partly sunny skies outside of the risk of precipitation on Friday. Heading into the weekend, a new storm will take shape off to our southwest. This will bring more showers and thunderstorms to the state (mainly in the southeastern half to two-thirds) Saturday afternoon through Sunday before it departs to the northeast. Severe weather doesn’t look likely with this system as it stands now, but we’ll monitor to see if that changes in the coming days.
FARTHER INTO JUNE: Going toward the middle of June, the GFS is showing some active weather with a possible ridge developing over the southwest extending into the Plains by the end of the period. This would put us possibly in the Ring of Fire pattern with possible complexes of showers and storms at that time. Readings look to be near seasonal levels with possible warmer weather toward the end of the period as the ridge looks to build toward the state. This is still fluid at this point and is likely to change in the next couple of runs, but as we are now in the first day of Meteorological Summer, we are always on the lookout for the first heat wave of the year.
