Iowa Weather Report May 27th 2014

SCATTERED RAIN: A few more days with chances of showers and thunderstorms across the state with readings mainly in the lower and middle 80s. Any severe weather would be very isolated and disorganized, but if you do happen to get a shower or storm, you may get some brief heavy rains, possibly some small hail and brief wind gusts approaching 40mph. Thursday and Friday will be drier but readings don’t budge much as lower to middle 80s will still be likely across the state with plenty of sunshine to go around.

INTO THE WEEKEND: The next system will be approaching this weekend and with it another chance of some showers and thunderstorms. The best chances of seeing precipitation on Saturday will be in the western half of the state while the eastern half will still see sunshine with some clouds. Readings on Saturday will be in the lower and middle 80s once again. The rest of the state will see activity on Sunday and into Monday of next week as well. It’s still too early regarding the chances of severe weather with this system, but it is possible given that this system looks to be more organized at this point. We should have a better handle on this system in the coming days.

LOOKING OUT INTO JUNE: Still see no real trends developing as we look farther into the month of June. The GFS is still showing some activity around with readings likely near seasonal levels in the 70s and 80s across the state. There are some systems of some organization that look to move through and those would be the ones that could possibly give us some organized severe weather, but it’s still too early to determine that threat this far in advance.
