Iowa Weather Report May 26th 2014

PRECIPITATION CHANCES: The next three days will see chances of showers and thunderstorms across the state. This will not be an all-day rain as mentioned in previous IWR’s and there might be some sunshine around but it will be very limited with a copious amount of cloud cover expected. Highs will be in the lower and middle 80s today through Wednesday across the state. Precipitation amounts will vary wildly across the area with some totals possibly reaching an inch by Wednesday evening.

A SLIGHT BREAK: Some drier air looks to come into the state Thursday and Friday before activity returns for the weekend with another storm system moving through. Readings don’t really move from earlier in the week with upper 70s to middle 80s across the state but Thursday and Friday will have more sunshine than in the preceding three days. Severe weather is not expected with the system next weekend but we’ll watch for anything that may change our thinking.

LOOKING INTO JUNE: The GFS is showing an active but disorganized weather pattern in the extended period with several disturbances and systems moving through bringing with it chances of precipitation. Readings look to be near seasonal levels outside a few days where we may get some cooler and drier weather around the 7th and 8th of June. No trends are coming into view at this time.
