Iowa Weather Report May 22nd 2014

THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Another couple of days of sunshine in store with an increasing chance of seeing showers and thunderstorms as we head into the weekend. Highs today will be in the upper 60s through the 70s across the state. Any shower and storms today will be confined to the far southwestern counties of the state during the afternoon hours. Most of the state should be dry again on Friday with readings in the 70s to lower 80s which will last through the weekend. The shower and storm chances increase on Saturday over the western third to half of the state and the entire state will get in on decent chances of precipitation Sunday and Monday and even into Tuesday as well. Highs as mentioned will be in the 70s and lower 80s across the state. This will not be an all-day rain by any means as there will be many hours of dry time where we may see some sunshine around. The best chances to see rain would be in the morning and then again late in the afternoon into the evening and possibly overnight. It’s too early to pinpoint any chances of severe weather but we’ll watch to see if this may need to be brought up in later discussions.

LOOKING FORWARD: The chances of precipitation look to continue into Wednesday and next Thursday and even a couple more days than that in our extended period. The GFS is showing a possible cool down in the first couple days of June that might put an end to the precipitation chances and may drop readings into the 70s or so but this is speculation at this point. I don’t have much confidence past seven days at this point.
