All of Iowa, Forecast

Iowa Weather Report May 20th 2014

MORE LIKE MAY: Partly to mostly sunny skies with a threat of showers and thunderstorms again today across the state. The best chance of seeing any rain will be in the eastern half of the state during the morning and again in the afternoon into the evening hours. Highs today will be in the 70s and 80s. The shower and storm chances will decrease and move into IL and MO but far southern Iowa still could see a slight chance of rain even on Wednesday although most of the state will remain dry and sunny. Readings will be a bit cooler with the passage of the cold front, however readings will only drop back into the 70s to near 80 across the state. The front will still be close enough Thursday into Friday that the far southern and southwestern counties of the state may see an afternoon storm at that time with the rest of the state seeing sunshine with a few more clouds closer to the front. Readings will be in the 70s through Friday across the state with lows in the upper 40s through the 50s each morning.

THE FIRST WEEKEND OF “SUMMER”: In what is traditionally known as the first weekend of “summer” looks to see some chances of showers and storms here and there with some sunshine around as well. Temperatures are expected to remain in the 70s to near 80 throughout the weekend. The best chances of precipitation on Saturday will be in the western half of the state with the entire state getting in on the chance Sunday into Monday. Not everyone will get rain each of those days however and the activity may be somewhat scattered, but it’s still too early to tell at this point. Organized severe weather isn’t anticipated at this time, but we’ll watch to see if that changes in the future model runs in the coming days.

INTO JUNE: No real organization in the extended period and no real trends outside a chance of showers and thunderstorms at some point with readings near seasonal levels. It’s difficult to forecast this far out as we move into the summertime with regards to possible afternoon showers and storms and clear skies at other times of the day and night. We may be able to pick out storm systems but at this point it’s too early to do that at this point.
