All of Iowa, Forecast

Iowa Weather Report May 19th 2014

THE WEEK AHEAD: Sunshine and some storms will be a part of the weather forecast this week across the state. It will be much warmer than last week as well. Highs today will be in the 60s and 70s across the state with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. This will be with a system that will be moving across the state today. A front will move through tonight and begin to slowly stall across the state on Tuesday before sagging southward into Missouri for a few days. Tuesday we will have some sunshine with an isolated shower or storm around with readings in the 70s and 80s across the state. Slightly cooler air will come in that will keep the best chances of precipitation to our south Wednesday and Thursday before the front begins to move back northward Thursday into Friday. Readings, the rest of the week will be in the 70s with some sunshine around. If the front is farther to the north however, the chances of precipitation will increase but there will still be some dry time as well.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: With the front moving back north and another system approaching from the west, it looks to come together across the area this weekend. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible throughout the weekend with readings mainly in the 70s. There will be some dry periods as well with some possible sunshine. Severe weather isn’t anticipated at this time, but that may change in the coming days.

ON INTO JUNE: No real trends developing as we head into the month of June. We see a few systems around the 29th of May and the 2nd and 3rd of June that may bring some shower and thunderstorm activity to the state at that time. Readings will be near seasonal levels until the end of the period where we may see warmer readings due to a ridge that looks to build over the southern plains and lower MS River Valley that could bring readings above seasonal levels at that time. But as always, this is still more than two weeks out and a lot of things may change in that time period but we’ll watch to see if this continues in future model runs.
