THE WEEK AHEAD: The week is going to start out quite chilly with readings today in the 30s and lower 40s with partly to mostly sunny skies. We could see some morning rain and or snow showers in the southeastern counties before those clear out and the clouds begin to move away. Lows tonight will really plummet into the lower and middle 20s statewide. A slow warm up begins on Tuesday with sunshine and readings in the 40s and 50s for highs at that time. The rest of the week will be dominated by the next storm system that will move into the state later on Wednesday. A warm front looks to situate itself along the Iowa Minnesota border which may get the northern tier of counties a chance at some rain on Wednesday while the rest of the state will see partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 40s north to lower 60s farther to the south. The cold front will slowly move into the state on Thursday bringing a chance of some showers around. This doesn’t look like a severe weather setup at this time with mainly some rain and perhaps some embedded thunder intermixed in. Highs on Thursday will vary depending on the placement of the front. A low pressure center will develop along the front to our south and move northeastward bringing more rain to the eastern half of the state for most of Friday as well. Highs will likely be in the same on Friday as on Wednesday with the colder locations being those that may see some rainfall most if not all of the day.
WEEKEND INTO THE EXTENDED PERIOD: The weekend currently looks mostly sunny with readings in the 60s after the departure of the late week storm system. Looking farther out into the model run, we still see some storm systems moving through the area with some showers and thunderstorms. Toward the end of the run some colder air looks to come down out of Canada and set up over the Great Lakes and the northeast which may cool our readings down a little bit here as well. We’ll see if this trend continues in the coming days.
