Iowa Weather Report April 13th 2014

NO VIDEO DUE TO EARLIER SEVERE WEATHER

GOODBYE WARMTH: A cool and somewhat rainy day in store across the state as the cold front which brought quite a bit of severe weather yesterday will be just to the south. Readings will be in the 40s to lower 60s from NW to SE with mainly cloudy skies outside any rain activity. As the colder air rushes in later today the precipitation may end as a rain snow mix. This shouldn’t be much of an issue at this point with any accumulation of snow likely not sticking due to the abundance of rain that will have fallen across the state. However elevated surfaces and perhaps cars could be a light dusting at best. Monday and Tuesday will be quite chilly for mid-April with readings in the 40s and 50s for highs with sunshine returning in earnest.

MORE MISCHIEF: Another frontal system will move into the state on Wednesday and Thursday which may bring another chance of some rain. A low pressure center will develop to our south and ride northeastward over Illinois which may bring more precipitation to the eastern counties of the state into early on Friday. We’ll see if this continues on runs later on today. Highs during this period will be in the upper 40s through the lower 60s depending on the amount of cloud cover and or rainfall.

EXTENDED PERIOD: I’m seeing no real trends developing during the extended period that goes almost through the end of the month. Several storms are possible around the 24th and 28th or so but nothing locked in as yet. Readings during the period look to remain near seasonal levels for the middle to end of April.
