312

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has posted an elevated risk for severe weather over most of Iowa today. The scattered showers and thunderstorms have moved out of our area allowing things to heat up quickly with temperatures in the 70s and dew points in the mid to upper 50s across the state.

We are expecting storms to begin developing later this afternoon along a boundary line, which will be centered across central and southeastern Iowa. Thanks to temperatures in the 70s across the state and dew points in the 50s, we should begin to see ingredients coming together within the next couple of hours for explosive thunderstorm development. Large hail to the size of golf balls, damaging winds in excess of 50 MPH, lightning, and localized flooding are the primary threats. An isolated tornado can not be ruled out.

The severe weather threat should last through this evening before flickering out overnight. Thunderstorms will remain through tomorrow morning.
