UP THROUGH THE WEEKEND: A cold front will come through the state today bringing a slight chance of a shower although many areas may get by with little if anything. Readings today will be back into the 60s across the state with partly to mostly sunny skies outside any shower activity. There is still a slight chance of a shower on Friday as well but those chances look to be dwindling, however outside that shower chance, skies will be partly to mostly sunny once again with readings in the middle 60s to lower 70s. It isn’t until the weekend when the chances of showers and a few thunderstorms will be greater. Some of the storms on Saturday could be strong but it’s still a bit early on determining that at this time. Highs on Saturday will be in the 60s to near 70 once again. Sunday we will be behind the front and with some overrunning, it’ll be a cooler day with rain around and highs in the 50s. Rainfall amounts could reach an inch or more by the time the system moves off on Sunday night into early Monday morning. There has been some model runs earlier today that has shown some snow possible as the precipitation ends (namely the 12z and 18z GFS). Right now it doesn’t look like that will be a problem, but we’ll watch to see if this reappears, however it does look somewhat unlikely.
ON TO NEXT WEEK: Monday will not feel like the middle of April, with cold readings, partly to mostly sunny skies and readings stuck in the 40s to lower 50s for highs. Tuesday looks to be a bit warmer with readings back into the 50s across the state with sunshine around. The next system moves in late on Tuesday and according to this run could last through the rest of the week. We’ll have to see if this is the case however. Readings will vary depending on the position of a warm front that looks to be across the northern counties of the state. North of that, readings would likely be in the lower 50s, while to the south, 60s and lower 70s could be possible. We still have plenty of time to watch this system in the coming days.
THROUGH THE END OF THE RUN: The model is showing several more systems toward the end of the period with chances of showers and thunderstorms. Readings look to be near seasonal levels if this is to be correct. We hope the rainfall is to be correct, because with the drought ongoing and farmers about to head out into the fields, any moisture will be a good thing at this point.
