All of Iowa, Forecast

Iowa Weather Report April 2nd 2014

PRECIPITATION AROUND: The next system will be moving into the state bringing some rain and embedded thunderstorms. This looks to continue through Friday evening when the precipitation may end as some rain snow mix or wet snow. We may also see some rain snow mix during the overnight hours Wednesday night and Thursday night in our northern counties. Highs during this time will be in the 40s to near 50. Precipitation amounts of .5 and 1.25” of rainfall are possible. There are model discrepancies regarding the amount of snow that we may receive from this system as it ends. We may be able to fine tune that forecast in the next day or two. There is a winter storm watch in effect in our far northwestern counties for Thursday afternoon through the day on Friday at this time.

WEEKEND: A split weekend still looks to be in store across the state with plenty of sunshine around on Saturday and some rain on Sunday. Highs on Saturday will be in the 40s and 50s while Sunday will feature highs in the upper 40s through the 50s. The rain also looks to continue into Monday as well.

MUCH MORE IN STORE: The Model Run is still showing some storm systems with some threat of showers and thunderstorms. One storm looks to come around the 12th and 13th and another around the 16th or so. Readings look to be near seasonal levels over the time period. That doesn’t mean we couldn’t still get frosts or freezes. The last frost and freeze time is still weeks away. We’ll continue watching for any continued trends in model data.
