THE NEXT WEEK: Cooler air will move into the state today with readings in the upper 30s north to near 50 south with partly to mostly sunny skies. Warmer air will move in for the weekend with readings in the 40s northeast to near 60 far west on Saturday and highs in the 60s and lower 70s statewide on Sunday. The next system comes in Monday into early Tuesday with a slight chance of some rain. We could see a changeover to some wet snow in the far northwestern counties of the state during the evening hours. It looks to be similar to the last storm but without the severe weather that occurred in southern Iowa down into Missouri. Moisture will return late Tuesday through the day on Wednesday into Thursday morning with some more chances of showers, perhaps a thunderstorm with another chance of seeing some wintry mix and or wet snow at the tail end of the precipitation. Outside of the weekend, readings are looking to be near or slightly below seasonal levels for the end of March into early April.
EXTENDED PERIOD: Looking at the extended period, temperatures are looking to warm to near and perhaps a bit above seasonal levels heading toward the middle of April. We see one storm around the 6-8th time frame that may bring us some decent amounts of precipitation at that time. We’ll see what develops from that. Another storm at the end of the period may bring more shower and thunderstorm chances as well. We will wait and see if this materializes.
