March 27th Late Afternoon Update

852

Showers and thunderstorms continue to move across the southern and into the eastern counties of the state. Some of the storms could bring hail up to the size of peas or dimes and winds gusting up to 40mph. Just after the image above was taken, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued in Mahasaka, Marion and Monroe counties for the storm NW of Albia. All the storms are moving to the NE between 35-45mph. There is considerable about of lightning in some of these storms so if you hear thunder, you are close enough to get struck by lightning.

Farther NW, rain has begun to change over to some snow in the northwestern counties of the state. Some west accumulations are possible in these areas perhaps up to an inch on the grass and elevated surfaces. Travel should not be much of a hassle at this time, but do take caution if you’re going to be out and about in the northwestern and north central counties of the state tonight as the precipitation there changes over to some wet snow.
