Iowa Weather Report March 19th 2014

THROUGH THE WEEK: The storm that brought some rain and snow to the state will be pulling out today. It may bring some rain snow mix early on in the eastern counties before skies begin to clear from the west. Readings today will range from the middle to upper 30s north to near 50 south. Thursday will be mainly sunny and much warmer as winds turn southwesterly ahead of the next system on Friday. Highs will jump into the 40s north to lower and middle 60s southwest. The next system will move in late Thursday night and Friday with some rain and or rain snow mix to the state. It will be similar to the previous storm but with less moisture around.

COLD WEEKEND: The weekend will be much cooler across the state with more clouds around on Saturday than on Sunday. Highs on Saturday will be in the 30s and 40s across the state with Sunday seeing readings a bit cooler with upper 20s north to lower and middle 40s south. Lows Sunday morning will be down into the teens and 20s statewide. Going into Monday and Tuesday, another disturbance moves in that may trigger a few rain and or snow showers to the state at that time. It’s a bit too early to determine amounts at this point, but as of now, it does look rather light at this time.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The extended period continues to look rather active with several systems possible during that time bringing some precipitation to the state in the form of rain and or a wintry mix. It does look to turn cooler as we move into April, otherwise the pattern looks to show mainly seasonal readings with some ups and downs preceding and following systems. We’ll keep watch as we draw closer.
